AKAKI SHANIDZE FOUNDATION
Akaki Shanidze fund is an independent non-goverment society registered by the ministry of justice of the Georgian republic on january 11th, 1996. It was founded by the Shevardnadze fund “democracy and revival”, scholars doing research in the field of Georgian and Kartvelian linguistics and philology and other persons interested in the same problems. The main purpose of the fund is further study of the georgian language and culture, popularization of the achievement of the Georgian philology outside Georgia. The fund's chief aims: to support the development of the Georgian philological science, accordingly, to hold conferences and saminars, to issue publications of scholarly researchs, to aid scholars working in the field of Georgian and Kartvelian studies, to grant bonus funds for best research works in Georgian and Kartvelian languages, to grant Akaki Shanidze stipendiums for students and post graduate students, to popularize lignuistic research among young people and school children, including them in dialectologic and folklore expeditions. The fund offers especial linguistic programs for regions with mixed linguistic communities and for Georgian population living abroad. The fund promotes and upholds projects and measures activating the popularization of the norms of the Georgian literary language among the population, accordingly, the fund plans the publish special popular materials and guidebooks concerning the literary Georgian language, it also aims to cover the problem in special television programs. The fund aims to promote the study of Georgian literacy manuscripts localized outside Georgia, to do further research in order to discover manuscripts wither unknown, to form special catalogues, to publish the texts from manuscripts, to publish glossaries and textbooks for teachers of Georgian language. The fund plans to establish connections with scholarly centers (universities et) outside Georgia to do team work. The fund provides special training courses and seminars for teachers of Georgian language and literature.
