ituated in Kazbegi region, the Chaukhi Mountains have been for many years some of the popular climbing and trekking areas in Georgia. The mountains offer a wide choice of trekking summits as well as rock climbing routes. The summit of Chaukhi /3842m/ with its 500 metre North face has some of the difficult climbing routes in the Caucasus. The fitness and experience of the group will be the determining factor what summits we will climb. Duration of the climbing days depends on the pitches of difficulty and number of the summits we will make.
Trip Grade
Grades 1-2: Those
who wish to make ascents to Chaukhi summits with grades 1-2, should be in
good physical shape and have basic trekking experience. There
are 7 routes of the given category.
Grades 3-4: Proposed routes in the Chaukhi Mountains require rock climbing background. In region there are 11 routes of these pitches of difficulty.
Grades 5-6: These grades are most difficult rock climbing routes and excellent climbing experience is needed. In region there are 8 routes of grades 5-6.
Our mountaineering courses provide opportunity to practice necessary climbing skills before going on the above mentioned expeditions.Outline Itinerary
Day 1. Arrive Tbilisi. Hotel.
Day 2. Drive to the village of Juta, 2200m, in Kazbegi region by crossing the
Jvari Pass, 2380m, on the Caucasian Main Range. Trek from the village to the Chaukhi
Mountains (2 hours). Camp, 2550m.
Days 3-6. Ascents of the Chaukhi Mountains,
3500m-3842m, Grades: 1-6. Duration of the climbing days depends on the pitches of
difficulty and number of the summits we will make.
Day 7. Trek down to village Juta. Drive to Tbilisi. Hotel.
Day 8. Departure from Tbilisi.
