CHILDS IN MOUNTAIN

    The protection of natural environment, introduction of ecologically safe culture of nature exploitation and advocating of healthy style of life are among the priority activities of  "Georgian Union of Mountain Activists".
A children's club functions at the Union which tries by realization of travels and campaigns to acquaint children with natural and cultural heritage of Georgia, from early age to impart skills of environmental care, to bring up physically and spiritually healthy generation.

    With this purpose the Union organizes travels, educational entertainment and other measures for children.
For example, in July 10-22, 1999 the children's club with the help of the M. Eristavi Centre of Children's Tourism of the Ministry of Education of Georgia has organized a travel to Trialeti Range. 42 children participated in this travel.
After acclimatization in village Gostibe and appropriate training, the travel itself has started. The mean height of the route was within 1200-1700 meters above a sea level.

    The territory of travel was heavily populated in the past. In old times here passed the Trialeti road, which started at Kldekari ("Rocky gate") and from historical Gostibe descended to the lowland of Kartli. Now this region is depopulated: the road went through deserted villages, cult buildings, ruins. Especially must be mentioned the monastery of Rkoni that was built in VII-VIII centuries.
