 Brief History of the Organization

Georgian Federation of Professional Accountants and Auditors was formed from merger of Georgia Club of Accountants (established in December 1996) and the Georgia Association of Accountants (established in April 1996) in April 1998. GFPAA was officially registered on May 5, 1998 as union (association) according to the Civil Code of Georgia.

Currently GFPAA is the first self-regulated professional organization in Georgia. On February 5th, 1999, the Parliament of Georgia passed a Law on Regulation of Accounting and Reporting. The law recognizes "independent professional organizations of accountants" and specifies that they are eligible to: (a) develop interpretations of IAS; (b) prepare accounting and reporting recommendations on those accounting issues that are not regulated by IAS; (c) upgrade qualifications of accountants and certify professional accountants.
