To
advance the state of scientific knowledge regarding ecology of rare and
endangered plant species of Georgian vegetation.
To facilitate the location and distribution of all native species belonging
to plant families: Orchidaceae, Iridaceae and Gentianaceae and to develop
distribution maps.
To
carry out experimental study of genetic variability on population level.
To
study the hybridization processes in the families of Orchidaceae and Iridaceae
and contribute in understanding of intraspecific divergence and speciation
mechanisms especially of rare taxons.
To
provide information regarding the use and preservation of rare and endangered
species and their habitats on the territory of Georgia.
To
locate, preserve and catalog significant literature on Georgian vegetation. To
communicate among members via mailings and periodic meetings.
To
disseminate the knowledge to the public about endangered plants and their
ecosystems.
To
develop collaborations with scientists and persons and societies aiming
the study of native plants in their countries.
To
encourage, recognize and honour outstanding achievements by members and
non-members, in advancing these goals of the NGO Orchis. |
