At present SDIF has finished the project devoted to investigation of the material-and-social state of the invalid children and development of suggestions to improve the existing legislation concerning the state economic support and privileges envisaged for such children. The suggestions were worked out in cooperation and with consultation of the lawyer were presented to the Juridical Commission of Georgian Parliament for consideration. Another goal of the Project was to provide personal stories of the children and try to find the sponsors both in Georgia and abroad who would render them aid.
A photo-album with stories and pictures of these children was compiled and published and distributed to the possible donors. An electronic version of the album will be placed in Internet by the end of October. The necessary technical equipment was provided by Open Society Georgian Foundation grant and the operation expenses were provided by "Horizonti Foundation" Small Grants Program. As a result of the work done SDIF found an American Charity Organization ACTS (A Call to Serve) International which has an affiliate office in Georgia ACTS Georgia and which included the three invalid children boarding schools into their program for 1999-2000. Two children with impaired vision were operated by the volunteers of SEE International to whom SDIF sent a personal case story with documented diagnosis of the specialists.
